The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reporting that the sector contributed approximately £113 billion to the UK economy in 2022, representing about 6% of the total GDP​​​​. This growth comes with the challenge of rising construction costs with some areas of the industry seeing declines whilst others have continued to increase, such as repair and maintenance. The Construction Products Association (CPA) noted that material costs increased by over 20% in 2022, with labour costs also on the rise. Downturns in some areas though promote an upturn in another, such as maintenance, and so the need for cost-effective, efficient and reliable MEP services is constant.
